National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) was founded in 1896 as Tomsk Technological Institute of Practical Engineers of Emperor Nicholas II, becoming the first engineering university in the Asian part of Russia. It is a leading technical university, ranked among the top 10 in Russia and the top 400 worldwide. TPU is a master's and postgraduate university educating top engineers from Russia, CIS countries, and the world, with over 15,000 students from 40 countries. It combines science and education with cutting-edge research infrastructure and trains personnel for Russian enterprises. Its historic campus, the first Tomsk student campus, was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
