The Middlebury Institute of International Studies is a graduate school of Middlebury College focused on developing and implementing practical solutions. It offers in-person and online programs, specializing in global security, sustainability, development, education, and language services. The Institute will conclude all programs by summer 2027; in August 2025 the Board of Trustees voted to end in-person programs and two online programs, and in April 2026 it decided to wind down remaining online master's programs by August 2027. The James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies will continue as part of Middlebury. The Institute is no longer enrolling new students except in select exchange and non-degree programs. It has hosted events such as the Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge and experienced learning trips to South Africa and other countries.
