Makerere University began in 1922 as a technical school with 14 day students studying carpentry, building, and mechanics. It has since grown into one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Africa. The university now offers more than 143 programmes across 10 colleges, covering technology, medicine, agriculture, business, and other sciences. Its mission is to generate new knowledge and apply it to improve livelihoods of individuals and communities locally and beyond.
